HM Submarine Artemis

From, L K Parfit – Harwich, Essex

Just to let you know that the mystery picture 164 is of HM S/M Artemis.  I was a part III Radio Operator the day she sank alongside Dolphin.

We had been out on sea trials all day, (post docking) 1970 on arrival alongside, I went inboard for supper, then a few pints in Allecto Collonade.  It was during these few pints that the subsunk alarm went off when it announced “Artemis” we did not take any notice as we knew she was alongside.

We could not believe our eyes later when we went to go back down to the boat to pick some gear up, only to find she had sunk, with a few of the crew stuck inside.
