Mast at former HMS Ganges

W ‘Bungy’ Williams,
Ex-Ganges Clubswinger
Okehampton, Devon

I have recently read two reports in National newspapers about the mast at the former HMS Ganges site being allowed to fall into disrepair through neglect over the years.

Wouldn’t it be better if it could be repossessed and reconstructed at HMS Raleigh?

It would provide an excellent visual attraction for the area and much needed work for the riggers in the Naval Base.

I wouldn’t expect the trainees to be allowed to climb the mast with the current ‘Elf and Safety regulations’ in force but at least they could see what the Boys at Ganges had to do in the old days.
